Initially effective filter in paper frame– this is, at first glance, a simple thing. But often we are faced with the fact that his task is underestimated. Many believe that its main function is simply to trap large particles. But this is not all. In this article I want to share my experience, problems and some solutions that we encountered when working with similar filters. I will try to speak without unnecessary formalities, as if I were telling a colleague over a cup of coffee.
So what is itinitial effective filter? In simple words, this is a filter that provides initial air purification from the largest contaminants - dust, insects, animal hair, etc. It is not intended for fine cleaning, but serves as a first barrier, extending the life of more expensive and efficient filters, such as HEPA or electrostatic. The main thing is to understand that the effectiveness of this filter directly affects the state of all subsequent stages of cleaning. If too many large particles enter the system, then thinner filters quickly become clogged and lose their properties. And this, of course, leads to increased maintenance costs.
There is often confusion between the term 'initial effective' and 'rough cleaning'. It's not the same thing. Rough cleaning is more about the mechanical removal of large particles. Ainitial effective filter, even paper, can have a certain degree of adsorption - trap some dust and microparticles due to the structure of the paper itself. Although this adsorption is not as pronounced as with activated carbon filters, it is still present and can contribute to the overall efficiency of the system.
We have repeatedly encountered situations where we choseinitial effective filter, focusing only on price. This often leads to suboptimal results. For example, using filters with a dust efficiency rating that is too low (MERV or Euro) will cause downstream filters to quickly clog, increasing fan load, and consequently increasing energy consumption. In addition, cheap filters often have low quality paper, which impairs their mechanical strength and leads to premature wear. In one of the projects that we implemented for an industrial premises (we have experience collaborating with the Air Conditioning Research Institute of the China Institute of Building Sciences to develop filter products), we usedinitially effective filterswith MERV 5, which led to the need for frequent replacement of more expensive HEPA filters. This had a negative impact on the client's operating costs.
Another problem is improper installation. Even the best quality filter will not work correctly if it is installed incorrectly. For example, if the filter does not fit well to the filtrate body, then air will bypass it and it will not be able to perform its function. Or if the filter is installed in the wrong direction, air will not flow through it efficiently.
When choosinginitial effective filterThere are several factors to consider. First is the dust efficiency rating (MERV/Euro). The higher this indicator, the smaller particles the filter will capture. However, it is worth remembering that increasing MERV/Euro can also increase air flow resistance. Secondly, this is the material of the filter element. Paper filters are the most common and affordable option. But there are other options, for example, filters made of synthetic fibers or polypropylene. They may have higher mechanical strength and durability, but are more expensive. Thirdly, this is the filter design. There are various filter designs - with thick paper, with perforation, with additional layers of adsorbent. The choice of design depends on the specific operating conditions. For example, for rooms with high humidity it is better to use filters with a water-repellent coating.
In our practice, we often recommendinitially effective filtersin a paper frame for small rooms and ventilation systems. They are quite economical and provide adequate initial air purification. We work with manufacturers who use high-quality cellulose and strict quality control at all stages of production. This allows us to offerinitially effective filters, which reliably perform their function and do not require frequent replacement. We also offer filters with a reinforced paper frame for longer service life and resistance to mechanical stress. We have experience of cooperation with enterprises engaged in the production of air purification equipment, such as ?Tianjin Tongchang Junqi Purification Equipment Co.,Ltd. (https://www.tcfilter-group.ru), and we can confirm the effectiveness of our solutions.
However, it is worth understanding that paper filters are not a panacea. They require regular replacement to maintain their effectiveness. The frequency of replacement depends on operating conditions and the degree of air pollution. In rooms with high concentrations of dust or other contaminants, filters need to be changed more often than in rooms with cleaner air.
Althoughinitially effective filtersin a paper frame is the most popular option; there are alternative solutions. For example, you can use mesh filters, which are also designed for rough air purification. They are more durable than paper filters, but are less effective at trapping small particles. Another option is to use combination filters, which combine several different materials and designs. These filters can provide more effective air purification, but are more expensive.
When choosinginitial effective filterIt is important to consider not only its price, but also the cost of its maintenance. Paper filters are relatively inexpensive but require frequent replacement. Other types of filters may cost more, but last longer and require less frequent replacement. It is necessary to analyze the costs of filter maintenance over their entire service life in order to select the most cost-effective option. For example, in one of our projects (with equipment from Tianjin Tongchang Junqi Cleaning Equipment LLC) we conducted a comparative analysis of the operating costs of various typesinitially effective filtersand found that the use of filters with higher MERV efficiency resulted in lower overall ventilation system maintenance costs.
Do not forget about the qualifications of the personnel who maintain ventilation systems. If personnel are not trained to correctly replace filters and follow other operating recommendations, then even the highest quality filter will not be able to provide the required level of air purification.
So,initial effective filter in paper frameis an important element of an air purification system that should not be underestimated. Correct selection and timely replacement of filters can extend the life of more expensive and efficient filters, reduce energy consumption and improve indoor air quality. It is important to consider many factors when selecting a filter, including the dust efficiency rating, filter element material, and filter design. You should not skimp on filters - this is an investment in health and comfort.
